March 6, 2012:  Copies of Prison Conversations remain available and may be ordered through this website.  It is probably best to e-mail teribookspublishing@gmail.com first, especially for a large quantity order.  News about prisoner interviewees Bill, Buck, 9-0, Henry, Jerry, and Rico has been added to the "Update" section of this site.

March 24, 2010:  There are still copies of Prison Conversations available.  You may purchase them through this website.  Bookstores and online merchants may also obtain copies through TERIBOOKS for you.  Prices have been reduced from the cover price for those ordering directly through this website.

June 19, 2005:  The author's trip through Washington giving readings and talks about Prison Conversations has been completed. Turnout was wildly mixed (some of the events had significantly larger turnout than expected, whereas two of the seven were cancelled for lack of turnout), but audience reaction and feedback was consistently very positive. Gabriel was accompanied by former prisoners Jerry and Rico for one appearance, and by Jerry only for three others. Gabriel's readings from the book included interviews with Buck, Rico, and Jeff. Many people from the audiences commented on how emotionally moving the readings had been, as well as how informative and inspirational it had been to hear from the former prisoners in person as they discussed their efforts to make it on the outside.

Prison Conversations has been reviewed in the May 18-24 issue of the newspaper Real Change. We have reproduced the review in the "Feedback" section of this site.

May 3, 2005: Reference and Research Book News, a bibliography of new scholarly books, includes Prison Conversations in its latest issue. The brief review is on page 174 of the May 2005 issue, which is available online at Book News. We have also reproduced it in the "Feedback" section of this site.

April 29, 2005: Several dates for live events in Washington have been scheduled. The precise format will differ from event to event, but will typically begin with a talk by the author, including a reading of part or all of an interview from the book. Then there will be a short presentation by one or two of the prisoner interviewees from the book who have since been released, talking not only about the book but about their re-entry back into society after decades of incarceration, and other issues.  There will then be a period of questions and answers and discussion with the audience. At each event there should be an opportunity to purchase books and have them signed.

April 26, 2005: A new section has been added to prisonconversations.com providing updates for readers who wish to know what has happened with the prisoners since the end of the book.

March 28, 2005: Popular Northwest book distributor Partners/West has decided to carry Prison Conversations. In our communications with bookstores in Washington, Partners/West was mentioned by far the most often as the distributor with whom they most liked to work, so this should result in even more stores carrying the book. Of course retailers may continue to order the book through Baker & Taylor, and retailers and individuals may always order directly from TERIBOOKS as well. Adding Partners/West just means another option.

March 22, 2005: Much of the early marketing for the book has focused on the state of Washington and the Northwest. During a trip through Washington from February 22 to March 7, the author had the opportunity to visit in person with buyers from several dozen bookstores and libraries. About twice as many were contacted by phone before and after. Response was quite positive. As a result, Prison Conversations will shortly be available at far more locations. (Of course, even where the book is not already on the shelves, bookstores can always order it for you.)

Also during the trip, preliminary inquiries were made at many Washington locations about live author appearances. Many stores and libraries were highly receptive and several such appearances are currently in the works, with late May and early June being the most likely period. As the author itinerary is set, specific dates and locations will be posted here.

Of note concerning such talks is that the author will likely be accompanied for at least most of them by one or two of the prisoners interviewed in the book who have since been released and are currently living in the Seattle area. They will be available to discuss both the book and more general issues involving their re-entry into society after very long periods of incarceration.

We expect to add another wholesaler/distributor within the next few days, which will further facilitate bookstores obtaining the book.

February 8, 2005:  The books arrived at TERIBOOKS from our printer today. A shipment of books was sent separately from the printer to our wholesaler Baker & Taylor, and those actually arrived last week. Pre-orders through Amazon and other booksellers go through Baker & Taylor, so anyone who pre-ordered the book should be receiving their copy any day now. New orders should be filled with little or no delay from here on.

January 31, 2005: The printing of the initial run for Prison Conversations was completed several days ago, and the finished books should be leaving our printer today or tomorrow. We expect to receive the books in a week or less. Books are simultaneously being shipped to our wholesaler Baker & Taylor. Thus by late this week or next week they should be able to fill all pre-orders that have been placed by bookstores or individuals.

January 10, 2005: The galleys have been received, approved, and returned to our printer, and everything is proceeding without any significant delays. We have been given an estimated completion date for the job of January 21.

December 16, 2004: A new section has been added to prisonconversations.com for feedback. Here we will share some of the comments we have received about Prison Conversations from readers and reviewers.

December 13, 2004: Prison Conversations is now at our printer. Assuming no unexpected delays, this first print run should be completed in January and the book available to ship to bookstores and to the public at that time.

November 16, 2004: Prison Conversations is featured in the December issue of Baker & Taylor's Forecast magazine, a catalog of soon-to-be published books of note for booksellers.

November 9, 2004: Prison Conversations has been chosen as a "Highlighted Title" for the month of November 2004 by Independent Publisher Online.  See the listing here: Independent Publisher Highlighted Title

October 7, 2004: The advance copies of Prison Conversations have been received from our printer and are being shipped out this week and next.  Due to the printing taking somewhat longer than anticipated, the release of the book itself to the public is now estimated for late December or January.

September 2, 2004: A sample chapter from the book has been added to prisonconversations.com.

August 3, 2004: Prison Conversations is currently at our printer, where a small number of paperback advance copies are being run off for distribution to reviewers and other interested parties.

We anticipate submitting the final hard cover version of the book to the printer in November 2004, with a release date to the public one to two months later.

August 2, 2004: prisonconversations.com goes online.
